Rotational Pastures

In regenerative farming one of the most important aspects is to rebuild soil. Past agricultural practices with chemical herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers have destroyed the natural soil and aquatic biomes in many agricultural areas. There has also been a trend towards larger and heavier machinery which compacts the soil. In addition leaving the fields fallow and uncovered by vegetation through their non productive times allow water and wind erosion to take its toll.

Rotational pasturing is an excellent way to regenerate and maintain healthy and very fertile soil. Creating a grazing schedule which moves livestock cyclically through fields that have been divided into smaller sections assures even grazing of the forage. This method promotes rapid regrowth of the pasture plants because they are fertilized by the manure the animals spread throughout the field as they graze. The pasture also do well because they aren’t grazed to the ground but left with a lively and strong portion of the plants still standing.

The pasture clovers and other flowering legumes support our bees and our sheep. Free range chickens can take care of a multitude of  insect pests.  Regenerative farming is a system of synergistic parts working together to create health in the soils that grow the plants and animals the provide sustenance for all other beings on the earth. It is the Circle that Sustains Life.
